Ellen-William
Ellen-William
The design is about Ellen and William Craft, enslaved African Americans, who made a daring escape to freedom in 1848. Ellen, disguised as a white male planter, and William, posing as her servant, traveled openly from Georgia to Boston. Their escape highlighted slavery's injustices, drawing significant attention. To avoid capture after the 1850 Fugitive Slave Act, they moved to England, where they continued their abolitionist work and wrote "Running a Thousand Miles for Freedom.".
